Motability

Am I eligible?

The scheme is open to anyone who receives one of the following benefits, and has at least 12 months award length remaining when they apply:

  • Higher Rate Mobility component of the disability living allowance
  • War pensioners’ mobility supplement

 

Can’t drive?

If you can’t drive you can apply for a car as a passenger and propose up to two suitable people as drivers. You can add a third driver for an additional fee.
No waiting lists; no credit checks; no assessments required.
Proposed drivers must not have any serious driving convictions, disqualifications or endorsements within the last five years. There are also some restrictions on drivers under 25 and those with provisional licences.

Schemes

There are two schemes which are available on the Motability - contract hire and hire purchase.

Contract hire offers worry-free motoring and convenience of a single, regular payment that includes insurance, maintenance and breakdown cover.

Your contract hire lease advanced payment, which will vary according to the Vauxhall model you choose, includes:

  • Comprehensive insurance cover provided by Royal & Sun Alliance 'Motability' (R&SAM).
  • Full breakdown assistance provided by the RAC.
  • Servicing, maintenance, and repairs - which you can arrange through Greens Vauxhall your approved Motability dealer - at no extra charge to you.
  • An allowance of 45,000 miles over the three years of your agreement. (Additional miles in excess of 45,000 are charged at 5p per mile at the end of the three-year lease period.)
  • If you choose optional extras that are not fitted as standard to your chosen car - such as a CD player - they cannot be included in the lease cost. You must have them fitted by your supplying dealer and pay for them yourself.

Hire Purchase

You might prefer hire purchase if you:

  • Want to buy a new or used car
  • Need adaptations and would prefer not to have to re-install them after three years. (However we can normally extend a three-year agreement for a further two years)
  • Regularly cover high mileage – over 45,000 in three years.


With hire purchase you do have to maintain the vehicle yourself, which includes insurance, breakdown recovery, servicing and repairs.
